RentLokr ("we", "us", or "our") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy describes the information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices available to you when you use the RentLokr marketplace, website, messaging tools, booking flows, and related services.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information: name, email address, phone number, mailing or service-area information, and account identifiers.
  • Social login information: if you sign in with Google or another social login provider, we may receive basic profile data such as your name, email address, profile image, and the provider account identifier needed to authenticate your account.
  • Identity and trust data: verification status, screening results, fraud signals, and information needed to verify eligibility or reduce marketplace risk. Some verification workflows may be handled through Auth0 or other third-party verification providers.
  • Listing and booking data: listing descriptions, photos, prices, availability, booking requests, approvals, rental dates, pickup or return details, and related transaction records.
  • Payment and payout data: billing, transaction, refund, and payout metadata processed through providers such as Stripe. We do not store full payment card numbers on RentLokr servers.
  • Communications and content: in-app messages, support requests, moderation reports, reviews, and user-submitted media or text.
  • Technical and usage data: IP address, approximate location, browser and device details, session diagnostics, security logs, and app interaction data.
2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to operate and improve the marketplace, protect users, and meet legal or contractual obligations.

  • Provide, personalize, and maintain accounts, listings, bookings, checkout, payouts, and messaging.
  • Authenticate users, verify identity, reduce fraud, and enforce our Terms of Use and Trust and Safety rules.
  • Send transactional notices, booking updates, payout notifications, support responses, and security communications.
  • Support protection or insurance workflows when coverage options or claims are involved.
  • Monitor reliability, troubleshoot issues, improve the service, and maintain audit logs.
  • Comply with tax, payment, legal, regulatory, and law-enforcement obligations.
  • Use Google account data only for sign-in, account provisioning, user-facing account features, account security, and fraud prevention. We do not sell Google user data, use it for targeted advertising, or use it to train generalized AI or machine learning models.
3. When We Share Your Information

We do not sell personal information for money. We share information only as reasonably necessary to run the service, protect the marketplace, or comply with law.

  • Service providers: identity, authentication, hosting, email, messaging, storage, moderation, and other infrastructure vendors that help us operate the platform, including providers such as Auth0, Twilio, and SendGrid.
  • Payment providers: including Stripe, for checkout, payout onboarding, refunds, disputes, fraud prevention, and regulatory compliance.
  • Protection or insurance partners: when a rental is submitted for coverage or when a claim, dispute, or loss review is needed.
  • Other users: limited profile, listing, booking, and communication details needed to complete a rental transaction.
  • Authorities and legal recipients: when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect users, RentLokr, or the public.
4. User Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain personal information. You may also opt out of non-essential marketing communications.

  • You can update profile information in your account settings.
  • You can request account deletion, subject to transaction history, fraud prevention, chargeback handling, tax, and legal retention requirements.
  • You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in those emails.
  • You can opt out of recurring transactional SMS account notifications in your account settings or by replying STOP to a RentLokr text message. Reply HELP for help. Message frequency varies and message/data rates may apply.

  • If we deny a privacy-rights request, you may request an additional review by emailing privacy@rentlokr.com.
5. Data Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. These include encryption in transit, access controls, logging, and role-based operational controls. No security system is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Retention Policy

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the platform, maintain records of completed rentals, resolve disputes, comply with tax and legal obligations, support fraud investigations, and enforce our agreements.

  • Google account profile data used for sign-in is retained for as long as needed to maintain the account, support security and fraud-prevention functions, and satisfy legal or operational retention requirements.
  • If an account is deleted, we will delete or de-identify personal information we no longer need, subject to transaction history, payment, fraud-prevention, safety, tax, and legal retention requirements.
7. Authentication and Third-Party Services

We may use third-party services such as Auth0 for authentication and identity-related functions, Google as a sign-in provider when you choose Google login, Stripe for payments and payout workflows, Twilio for SMS delivery and verification, SendGrid for email delivery, and infrastructure vendors to host and secure the application. Those providers process information under their own terms and privacy notices.

  • When you sign in with Google, we receive only the account information needed to authenticate you and create or maintain your RentLokr account.
  • Twilio may process your phone number, message delivery metadata, verification events, and SMS opt-out status to deliver one-time codes and account-related text messages.
  • SendGrid may process your email address, delivery metadata, and unsubscribe or suppression status to deliver account and support emails.
8. Email and SMS Verification

We may require verification of contact methods before enabling certain features. Email verification links and one-time SMS verification codes are used only to confirm ownership of the address or phone number provided.

  • Verification SMS is separate from recurring account notification consent.
  • Recurring transactional SMS account notifications are optional and are limited to booking updates, approvals, reminders, payment notices, and account security communications.
  • Mobile information and SMS opt-in data will not be shared, sold, or transferred to third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.
  • Users who request SMS verification or SMS notifications should review the consent language presented in the relevant product flow, including message frequency, opt-out instructions, and applicable message and data rate disclosures.
9. Insurance and Protection Data

If a booking involves optional protection or insurance, we may share booking details, item details, and user information necessary to quote, bind, administer, or investigate a claim. RentLokr does not underwrite those products.

10. Children's Privacy

RentLokr is not intended for children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. U.S. Processing

RentLokr operates primarily in the United States. By using the service, you understand that your information may be processed and stored in the United States or by service providers acting on our behalf.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the service, legal requirements, or our practices. When we do, we will update the date on this page.
